Nokia E66 and Nokia E71
Hopefully, the announcement of Nokia’s upcoming E66, E71, and 7310 handsets isn’t that far off, now that the official press images have shown up on several news sites. The E66 is the successor to the E65 slider, and the E71 is the successor to the E61, with a full QWERTY keypad. Both devices will ship with 128MB RAM, 3.2mp cameras, with forward-facing cameras for video calling.

Nokia Promises 'Tube' to Compete with Apple's iPhone
According to Avi Greengart, a wireless analyst at Current Analysis, Nokia has been hinting at this device for months. He watched a video about a Nokia touchscreen phone at a December conference.
"Nokia is quick to tell you it is already well versed in using touchscreens and creating touchscreen devices," Greengart said. "In fact, its Internet tablet even has a full Internet browser with Flash support."
Java Built In
The Tube will have Java built in as a standard, which would give it at least one competitive advantage over Apple's current iPhone, according to Tom Libretto, vice president of Forum Nokia. Libretto also told the conference that the Tube will be able to upload photos to the Web, which would mean built-in Wi-Fi or HSDPA connectivity. The tube may also include support for the DVB-H mobile-TV standard for Europe and mobile video.
Nokia has a strong brand presence in Europe, particularly in high-end multimedia. Greengart suggested Nokia is trying to freeze the market with a promise of an iPhone-like device soon. While that promise may not make much of an impact in the U.S., he said, it carries tremendous credibility in the European market.
Nokia did not disclose exactly when the Tube might be ready for distribution. However, Greengart said Nokia has consistently promised to deliver a touchscreen mobile phone before the end of 2008. Meanwhile, Apple is readying the next version of its iPhone, a 3G device that could allow Apple to gain more market share in the U.S. and Europe.
Innovation Remains King
Apple has its strengths, as does Nokia. For example, the iPhone has a two-megapixel camera that takes clear shots but does not have a flash, Gartenberg said. Nokia has devices that offer a five-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and relatively low shutter lags, auto focus and a flash.
Then again, the experience of using an iPhone versus a Nokia N95 is quite different because the iPhone has a large, high-resolution touch screen. "The iPhone literally feels different than scrolling around things on Nokia's browser using five-way navigation control buttons," Gartenberg said. "But both present you the entire page the way it would look if was on an even larger screen."
The key for both companies is innovation. If Nokia, for example, merely takes the 12-button experience and moves it to a touchscreen, then the paradigm doesn't change much. Users want a different experience, Greengart insisted.
"The real challenge and the real benefit of using the touchscreen is that it gives you the ability to create a differentiated experience," Greengart said. "We are starting to see some stuff come out of Nokia's labs that is quite exciting in the realm of using touchscreens, accelerometers and sensors."

Samsung F480 Announced for Release - Samsung SGH F480
Today Samsung officially announced their newest touchscreen phone - the Samsung F480 or otherwise known as Samsung TouchWiz. Yeah, we know that it was announced in Barcelona back in February but there is some news in this second announcement too.
For a start the Samsung F480 will be sold under different names in different regions. For example in the UK the F480 is going to be sold as Samsung Tocco.
Samsung also revealed the details about the battery of the handset - 1000 mAh of capacity, 3 hours of talk time and 300 hours of stand-by time. The dimensions have also been slightly updated to 98.4 x 55 x 11.6 mm and the weight has been fixed at 100.6 grams.
Also this second announcement hints of the fact that Samsung F480 is about to hit the shelves in the nearest future. In fact some online retailers are already accepting pre-orders. The rates are however rather high, starting at about 600-700 US dollars.
In case you need a quick memory refresh here are the most important features of Samsung F480. It is tri-band phone with HSDPA 7.2Mbps support, and an ample 2.8" touchscreen QVGA display. The camera counts the impressive 5 megapixels and comes with autofocus, power LED flash, image and video stabilization.
Of course, there is audio and video player with multiple file format support, as well as FM Radio with RDS. The impressive TouchWiz user interface and navigation are the final ingredients for making the classy performer.

New photos of Sony Ericsson Paris
A month ago, photos showing a new Sony Ericsson phone, codenamed “Paris”, appeared on the Internet. Most of them were fuzzy and inconclusive, but today, sharper ones became available, showing the device in all its glory. The photos reveal a hybrid QWERTY keyboard, similar to the P1 and other previous models. Also, a 5-megapixel camera hidden under a protective cover, is clearly visible on the back of the phone.
Sony Ericsson G702 unveiled by the FCC
Sony Ericsson G702 unveiled by the FCC
Although it showed in spy photos back in February, it is just now that the G702 (code named Beibei) proves to be a real device, thanks to its FCC approval. We were quite skeptical about it, due to the strange form factor (the 3-way scroll used for navigation, similar to the LG Shine), but it seems Sony Ericsson has really decided to use it.
As its model shows (a G-series device), the G702 is yet another phone, targeted to the “generation Internet” customer. Like the G700 and G900, it would run on UIQ, but this one seems to be the first with the newer 3.3 version. Its manual shows that it will have the Opera 9.5 browser, which has a great rendering engine and a pretty comfortable interface, so the browsing experience will be better than before. For a high-speed Internet connection, one can use either HSDPA (2100 MHz band for Europe only supported) or WiFi. However, if you are not covered by a fast 3G network, you will have to use the slower EDGE technology, but at least it will be usable worldwide, since G702 is a quad-band GSM.
It will also be the first Sony Ericsson with widgets, including a hardware shortcut to them. The manual shows images of Weather, Facebook, and YouTube, which are potential hits among the audiences targeted, but the availability of more apps will be what makes its presence worth it.
The G702 will also have an integrated GPS receiver and a navigation application, but it is yet unknown if it will be a full version, or a demo trial. Google Maps is also preloaded as with previous SE phones. The GPS would probably also be usable for geo-tagging of the photos, captured by the 3-megapixel non-autofocus camera.
The whole design language points out that the phone is targeted to the youth. We expect it to be available in a few color variants (as noticed in various spy photos) in order to appeal to as large a consumer group as possible.

YoYap All Characters In One Packed
YoYap All Characters In One Packed[New Cert.] YOYAP! is a fun, easy-to-use, multi-media mobile application for S60 3rd Edition devices that allows the user to create an animated video clip using voice or any other audio input. Users have the choice of multiple YOYAP! Characters (these are cartoon skins/faces.) Each character is pre-packaged with 3 moods ... happy, angry and sad!. YOYAP! has 2 core functions: 1. Live call animation; 2. Recorded animated video messaging Live Call Animation The Live Animation feature of YOYAP! results in the 'live' animation of both incoming and outgoing voice streams to and from the mobile device, respectively. This implies that both incoming and outgoing caller voices are tagged as 'sound input' and the users chosen YOYAP! Character will animate this streaming audio input accordingly to appear as if the YOYAP! animated character is speaking! Boring voice calls will never be the same again! Animated Video Messaging The Video Messaging function of YOYAP! is a compelling feature allowing the user to generate an animated video message using any targeted sound/voice input e.g. music, voice or other. The result is a highly compelling, personalised, animated video message to entertain or send to a friend via MMS or Bluetooth. The output video file is in an industry standard .3gp format implying that the recipient of the video file does not require YOYAP! installed on-device in order to play the message content. No need to send boring SMS's any longer! Create, act, direct and send your very own animated video messages from a mobile to another mobile device using YOYAP! Animated Video Messenger NOW! WidSets - Mobilize Your Web
WidSets 2.0 Beta s60v3 The Widsets 2.0 beta site recently went live which means you can now download and test the latest version of the Widsets client. New features include better integration between Widsets and the rest of the device including the ability to initiate a phone call or open a browser window. Widsets is a way to get web content on your mobile via widgetisation. Read on for more. Widsets has been around since the summer of 2006 (but only really took off last year). It has continued to evolve at an impressive pace and the new version holds a great deal more functionality that the original version. The basic idea is presenting digestible web content optimised for consumption of a mobile device through a 'dashboard / desktop' and 'widget / application' interface. Widgets are arranged on the dashboard and each widget can be opened to view the contents. The basic Widgets are RSS feeds wrapped in an attractive package, but there are also a number of small games and utility widgets. New to this beta is the Push E-mail widget. The new version is also faster loading and is smoother in operation. The overall impression is of a much more polished application. Note the new ability to 'Move' Widgets around the dashboard. This together with the on device Widget library means in practical to use Widsets without going near the PC site. Here the Guardian Widget demonstrates the new ability to open the link in a browser. This addresses one of the longest standard limitations of Widsets and makes the whole Widsets system much more useful. The beta also includes other recent updates / new features such as the ability to rearrange widgets on the device (previously this had to be done via the Widsets website) and the creation of new widgets from with the application.
