Microsoft to launch 3 new services along with Windows Mobile 6.5?

It looks like fans of Windows Mobile are in for quite a treat at next month's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Internet reports say that not only will the Redmond based software company introduce WinMo 6.5, another trio of offerings will be announced. "SkyBox" will allow for mobile syncing of e-mails, calendar appointments, and SMS. It will also allow for automatic backup and restore. "SkyLine" is the business based version of "SkyBox" with Exchange integration. Businesses will be able to use Microsoft's Exchange hosting using their own domain names. "SkyMarket is an over the air applaications center similar to the Apps Store on the iPhone and the new BlackBerry Applications Center expected to open this March. Nokia and Securitas combine to turn your cellphone into security system

You use your cellphone for many things these days. You can check your e-mail with attachments, fire off a reply, browse the internet using an HTML browser, watch T.V.. and movies and listen to your music collection. Now, thanks to a collaboration between Nokia and Securitas, your mobile device can also be a security system. Securitas Safe-2-Go is available now on GPS-enabled phones using the S60 OS and are. The service offers four different types of protection. "Assist", with a touch of a button, connects you with the central alarm office of Securitas if there is a situation that requires immediate attention calling for the police or an ambulance. Your current location is noted at the central office and any family or friends that need to be notified are informed. The second service is "Find" where you can get the current position of friends and family. "Zone" is a feature you can use to make sure your kids stay where you expect them to be. A pre-determined area, like a home or school, is set and you receive a text message anytime a specific person wanders out of the preset zone. The last service is "Friends" which gives you an overall look at where your friends are at any given time. Safe-2-Go will be available in Sweden during the first half of this year with other European countries set for service later this year. Anyone feeling safer already?

The Nokia N79 Active comes with a heart rate belt

If you are keen on sports, then you should take a look at Nokia’s new product, the N79 Active, which is about to come bundled with the wireless Polar Bluetooth WearLink heart rate belt. This new addition is targeted at people who like to spend their mornings jogging in the park. It’s going to feature an A-GPS tracking unit and a new version of the Nokia Sports Tracker application, giving users a chance to share their favorite routes and fitness data, as well as geotagged photos of the routes, taken with the 5-megapixel camera.

In addition, thanks to the wireless heart rate belt by Polar, you’ll be able to closely monitor how hard your body works. The N79 Active will also come with sporty headphones, armband and a 4GB microSD card. It will be available through select markets for the price of $ 491 (EUR 375) before taxes and subsidies.

Samsung's first projector phone sees daylight at CES 2009

Do you remember those tiny DLP-based pico projectors presented at last year's CES? Well, this year Samsung have integrated one into a real working mobile phone. Imagine having a projector this size always with you.

For their first projector phone Samsung chose to go with Texas Instruments and their DLP-based pico projector module that was announced at last year's CES.

The new projector phone by Samsung is actually a working device and it should be available in Korea this year under the Anycall brand meaning it's not a GSM mobile. It has an OLED display, 5 megapixel camera and runs on the Samsung TouchWiz interface.

The model name of the Samsung projector phone is still a mystery since unlike what other websites are publishing, the SHOWsign on top of the device is not its name but a Korean wireless video service. The same sign can be found on most Anycall SPH handsets.

While image quality by pico projectors is not comparable to the one of their desktop counterparts (who expects that anyway!), the result is quite stunning and the gadget can be used for watching movies or browsing through the image gallery on the move. The best thing about having the projector built right into the phone (instead as a separate device) is that there is no need of external video source and it's always with you ready for use. Of course, you'd probably have to bring your charger along too, as this beam of light seems like a true battery eater.

Along with the mysterious projector phone Samsung also introduced a PMP, dubbed as MBP200. The latter has an integrated DLP projector, too. It also packs a 2.2 inch LCD display, DMB TV tuner and offers video and MP3 support.

Its projector (made by TI again) is able of projecting images with a 480 x 320 pixels resolution and a size of up to 50 inches. The Samsung MBP200 has up to 16 GB memory on board (via an SD card slot) and sports a built-in speaker and a video input jack.

Nokia 5710 XpressMusic appears with updated spec

Nokia 5710 XpressMusic made another early appearance - this time on the Nokia US website. It still looks just the same as the swivelling 5700, but upgrades its specs. We hope the curtain will fall soon and there will be an official announcement.
Nokia 5710 XpressMusic, the successor of the popular 5700, has been spotted on the Nokia USA official web page. On the small banner we can see the long time rumored picture of the handset. The design is similar to its predecessor with the swiveling two-faced keyboard. The black body color and blue outlines make it quite similar to the Nokia 5700 Transformers edition.

Increasing rumors online in the past few months show that the primary upgrades of the Nokia 5710 include a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash and GPS functionality.

Nothing official yet, so we are all ears for an official announcement - hopefully soon.

LG celebrate 5 million Viewty phones sold around the world

Today LG announced that their successful 5 megapixel cameraphone Viewty has hit the 5 million units mark. Now, 14 months after its market release, the full touch-based Viewty has conquered some 350,000 pockets in its home country, while the rest 4,650,000 devices have spread over Europe and the rest of Asia.

LG seem to be proud of the success of their first widely available cameraphone - the LG KU990 Viewty.

The 5 megapixel device features 3-inch TFT touch display, xenon flash, VGA@30fps and high-speed QVGA video recording. Despite some camera and flash issues the gadget has obviously earned enough fans to hit the 5 million mark.

It has been 14 months since the LG Viewty premiere. The handset price today (a tad over 200 euro) is rather reasonable and that may be one of the reasons for its continuing success. The more affordable price has moved the Viewty to a lower market segment where its specs still seem rather attractive.

To celebrate the event LG will start two new color lines of Viewty. Besides the well known black, dark silver, purple, red and pink versions, the market will also enjoy the new light blue and light silver alternatives. It seems LG may as well be aiming for another million or two.
